Simple. DA and ECNL will follow MLS expansion. That means New York, Miami and a possible buy out in Atlanta. The leagues want well funded programs which means MLS deep pockets. So your club may have a tradition of winning and may even be respected nationally but if you ain't got the funds, you won't get the patch. Everything is tied together and this has been in the works for many years. MLS gets priority and NWSL clubs gets second opportunity for ECNL.

The ECNL will not expand past 84 teams. There are no complexes big enough to accommodate. There will be minimal expansion from here on out. The Southeast has 4 spots left. In the end there will be 7 conferences each with 12 teams. After that will be performance based to be removed. If a club cannot compete it will be removed and replaced. Who that is may have some to do with affiliation but there isnt much room to expand left.

Why the cap at 84? I can understand the Miami connection and they should get it. Needs to be further south to attract all talent. Never understood why they selected OC and WFF so near each other, though they did already have several larger clubs near them I guess they expected to pull talent from, and they did. As to size and money, being in the central Florida area, though a little further south and closer to the coast, why does IMG not get the opportunity? They have both qualities you state they need, size and money. There is so much talent on this coast between Naples and Pinellas County, I"m sure they could fatten up their rosters easily enough if they got it.

It's official WFF is out and IMG is in. ECNL leaders were not happy with The mismanagement and poor leadership at WFF.
