Stars...everyone stays, but they don't win. Why?

I don't get it. Everyonre goes and stays at Stars but yet they are not the powerhouse. With so much talent and great coaches, why are they falling behind NEFC or even CFC?

The answer could be very simple: not everyone is staying nor coming. their coaching staff is far from being great and GC's loss was a big setback.

Stars are the past....NEFC is the future, at least on the girls side

When was the last time you beat your wife, BTDT?

Maybe because many Stars families believe in the coaching and the development their kids are experiencing--and, for some, the ECNL path. There really is no mystery here. But good luck to NEFC in its ongoing quest to convince its better players to stay the course.

It does seem that the Stars have been in a flat to declining trajectory since the departure of GC. It could be coincidental but he either had impeccable timing or his value to Stars was more than they thought.

As I look at teams from U16 down, the only movement I have seen are players that left the now U14 group. Every other team is intact with their core group of players and have beaten Stars teams regularly. I guess that is evidence enough. As for the coaching, you've got to be joking, right? It's ALL about development blah, blah, blah! I have seen Stars players come over to NEFC and they are technically weak, so they must be focusing on other areas of the game, right? The ECNL path is only viable if you have good teams and right now, even lowly NPL teams are beating Stars teams consistently. The landscape is changing and has been for a few years. Good luck to Stars attracting the talent they were once able to.

Which NPL teams are beating Stars "consistently"?

And please elaborate on how the landscape is changing. Are you implying ECNL is losing its grip?

The U13s have beaten Stars consistently. The U15s have beaten Stars more than not. The U16s hammered Stars at GPS and I believe the U17s also beat them. Coupled with other losses to NPL teams in the same tournament, it would appear that Stars are unable to recruit the top talent they have in the past. ECNL is always going to be strong, but it is not strong in the Northeast. That is the reality. So to answer your question, more and more players are opting to stay with their local clubs and not trekking an 1 - 1.5 hours to practice when there is a stronger/comparable team nearer to home. As a result, Stars teams are vulnerable and are being beaten. I'm sure it's just a blip and they'll be back stronger than ever, but I have to agree with another poster, when GC left, things have not been all rosy in Stars land.

ECNL is a huge commitment that many families aren't willing or prepared to make. Giving up High School soccer, the financial commitment, as well as the time commitment may not be worth it to some families. NEFC is just as good, if not better, and for the VERY few D1 recruits there will be plenty of exposure. Years ago maybe ECNL was the only option, however, that is no longer the case and parents are realizing it's just not worth it.

Years ago??? The ECNL has only been around like 5.

College coaches that do not look beyond the ECNL will miss out on talent.
