Going Pro and where and when

Although I know that this is a negative thread, but I wonder if there is an educational part of it.

Fagundez entered into the professional leagues at a young age and has seen some decent play time over the last few years. This past year it has declined significantly as better more productive players have taken the spots.

There was talk about going to Europe to learn better soccer, even if in a lower league than the EPL or its like. Instead, the Revs owned him and gave him an offer at age 16. I don't know if he completed HS. At the present time, he is a sub.

My question is whether or not, in hind sight, he jumped to the pros to quickly, should have gone to Europe, or perhaps it is too early to determine anything.

How old is he now? 19? Still too young to say IMO.

Talented player. As skilled as other players at his age around the world? Hard to say. It's stories like these that nudge other talented players to take the safe route and spend 4 years in college.

That was the path Felix Debona took.

Diego was one of their MVP's last year and has more skills than several starters now. he seemed like a star in the making . I can only presume something happened that we weren't privy to. Personally I love him as a player and he seems like a good kid. I hope they let him go to team where he can play if they aren't going to play him. But his age didn't seem to be a problem.

that we weren't privy to. But this is the same team that let one of the United States best strikers, Juan Agudelo, leave so I'm not sure what their criteria is for who gets minutes and who doesn't.

I wouldn't say he has slipped or was never the real deal. He's 19, and been pushed aside by older, more experienced pros, having career years. The chemistry on the field would be my guess. He is a talented player, but the college players have more experience in one and done games, never mind the players with international experience. We will see more of him next year, I hope. To answer the graduation question. Yes, he graduated this past June from HS.

                  Diego is just fine

New players came in. Jermaine jones entered and Charlie Davies came on strong! Diego will be just fine and he is earning $150 k not bad for 19.

Diego playing pro was for marketing purposes. The last few years the Revs were terrible, once they got good players he is a sub now.

Typical American coach who sees little value in talents. But in reality Deigo happens to play the same position as Lee so not a hard decision. Good coaches will find a spot for him on the starting 11.

You two wizards should have no problem explaining why Lee Nyugen had only 4 goals and 7 assists last year while Diego Fagundez had 14 goals and 7 assists. His skill set was growing by leaps and bounds. Maybe his skills disappeared overnight. The real cynic in me wonders if they made a tactical decision to curtail his minutes so Europe didn't come calling.

It is pretty simple. Last year, he was producing and was a big part of the team's success. This year, he wasn't and the formula the team found for success didn't include him in the lineup. They've made an impressive run without him in the lineup, and as they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it. But I seriously doubt that they've given up on him, and perhaps he needed to take a step back to end up taking a step forward next year. Only time will tell that.

I'd also like to add that "the Revs let Agudelo leave" comments drive me crazy. He wanted to leave. He wanted to play in England so badly that he turned down offers from other Euro clubs and he now isn't playing for anyone. The only scenario I see that he even would have considered staying is if the Revs had thrown a ridiculous amount of money his way. No way they were going to do that last year. Had he been with us this year, after the Krafts saw the negative press they got from the Boston Magazine article, the World Cup fever, the success of the Jones signing, the big crowds they've gotten for the playoffs, etc. maybe they would have done it. But the decision to leave was on the player, not the team.

Wizard 1 here, when Diego was scoring the Revs were in the toilet. So they just kept feeding him the ball, he scored but they still did poorly. Also perhaps the competition wasn't overly concerned about the Rev's beating them, so they would use their subs and still win.

Very typical to focus on flashy strikers but still lose the game. Offense gets the glory but defense wins.
