    Fees

We enjoy soccer and i have no false sense that my child is going to play in pro or top college. My question, Is 1400,plus an additional ? For hotels, coach travel fee, etc too much for a program?

Yes it is way too much. If college/pro aren't your aims then being in a competitive program and paying these large fees is probably not a good choice. Where in Florida are you?

      Yes, 1400 dollars seems excessive.

It is a great deal of money and too much for many families. If you are not on your clubs top team, you are almost always just a source of revenue to them. There is very little actual player development, but a lot of carrot dangling in the hope that you will continue to sign up and pay. Many players are put on "premier" teams that do not belong there. They bring down the levels of play but bring in the levels of revenue. Not great for the player who sits on the so called bubble. If you can afford $1400 plus and enjoy the game and exposing your child to playing on a team and getting some great exercise, it is not a waste. It is not unreasonable to ask for appropriate leagues and possibility of success, however.

it depends. what are your goals and those of your child? while no guarantee, it would likely help in staying out of trouble, being fit, learning and growing in a team environment, winning and losing with character are all positives. thinking about what some pay for legal fees, rehab, etc, it is not excessive. rec does not offer the same level of involvement.

I have seen some competitive teams with fees in the low to mid 400s and no extra training costs (travel and tournament costs extra of course) and some closer to $2K with extra training fees to be tacked on later (excl travel & tourney costs).

A lot of it depends on the level of the program and whether coaches are paid or not. I know there is a lot of Daddy coaching around the board (I am not one, just to clarify) but there are some Dad's who have a strong background in soccer who make good coaches. I think by high school age though, coaching your own children can be detrimental. Clubs with paid coaches, high paid DOCs who have more licenses and playing experience are obviously going to be more expensive.

If your child enjoys the sport but doesn't aspire to play at the college or pro level, a less expensive competitive team might be all you need. And if later, they become more serious about their future in the sport, you can invest in a program with more training. As long as you understand that more expensive doesn't always equate to "better training". Do your research.

If it includes all coaching fees, $1,400.00 is less than the dues charged by clubs in many other areas of the country and is consistent with the dues charged by Florida clubs which have full-time DOCs, paid administrative staff and paid and licensed coaches for a 10 month program. However, I do assume there are smaller Florida clubs with part-time DOCs, volunteer coaches, volunteer administrators and dues far less than $1,400.00.

In any event, our aged-out child says the youth soccer experience was priceless.

Typical club fees for premier team senior level. FSPL R3PL National Premier League

club fee $800-$1200 2 to 3 days training
Additional coach fee if coach feels they should get paid more the club is willing to pay. May add extra training day $60 per month $600 per year
Team fee to cover coach travel expenses and tournament fees $85-$150 per month
Team Kit to include matching back pack $250
Est cost for player on premier team
                $2100-$3000

Depending on how many out of town games and tournaments you play add $100 to $150 each if you send your player with another player.

Add $300-$500 if you travel with the team.

To play on a premier team the cost can range from $5000-$7500 per season. That does not include equipment you child may need though out the year.

Soccer reality is a pay for play sport for those who have a good amount of disposable income.

Like every club will tell you. Go out and get sponsors and do some fundraising.

                  simple math:
if they offer 80 training sessions per year:
cost of training session which includes coaching fee, field rental, equipment etc= USD 125
                  that results in 80 x 125 = 10,000

if you have 15 players per team:
                  then 10,000/ 15 = $667

1400- 667= $733 covers DOC salary, Registrar and screen time to BS on TS.

If you have 3 sessions per week:
                  120 x 125 = 15,000
                  15,000/ 15 = 1000 per player
If there are 18 players, that is added bonus to the club and taking crap from parents because of playing time issues.

If the team shows 20 players, then, DOC is full of greed- run-away asap.

Un forunately: we have financial wizards taking over soccer business who market it as One Family/One Goal/One Club or LSP as long as they are in charge. Then they can make tons of $$$$$$

$1400 in top of club fees is probably just about right when you have a full-time DOC with a washed up NFL kicker for a son that needs a constant salary.

How about $45. Buy a decent ball for your kid and tell them to go outside and juggle.
Your kid will benefit more from that than most of the coaches/training sessions I have seen.

Free: YouTube a set of training videos and let your kid develop some decent ball touch and 1v1 skills on their own. Parents pay for training and then start one-uping each other through the FL Pay to Play soccer system, blood sucking coaches-trainers telling them their kids need to do it. Ridiculous! Random Parent " My kid is on state cup and trains with so and so"

In my personal case, I don't mind paying to play and would like to go for training sessions. My issue was finding the right trainers/coaches.
I have plenty of soccer balls and equipment at home, but there is no substitution for coaching if you find a GOOD COACH. This year, I think we are at the right place and with right coach to match the style of my sons play, it is not easy to find that match up. This same coach has many issues with many other players. Many other coaches had issues with us before, so I hope we will be able to make the best of this opportunity this year.

Based on my experience, my recommendation to parents: You get the best value for your dollar spent by practicing ball skills at lower ages. Travel and competition helps your kids to mature in life-skills but adds very little to soccer skills. U-13 and upwards, probably travel and expenses can be justified if your kid has that good of soccer skills already developed. Soccer is not like any other sports, training your feet is a massive under-taking, but possible with lots of hard work as you age. Then getting team skills is totally different aspect and that is why it can be expensive to get into the right level of competetion. Then there are a few vultures who can say your kid is so good, they can try out for Bayern or Barca. Send them for tryouts only if you do not care about a few thousand dollars to spare and for the experience of travel. Do your homework.

This summer my son played non-competitive basketball at the YMCA. It cost roughly $175 for 2 1/2 months with spending a little extra so he could use the gym. 1 practice a week and 6 games. If he did it, even without the use of the gym, 10 to 12months like soccer, cost average is about the same.

Neighbor says they paid $500 in fees for travel Baseball for 4-5 month(?) season.

My daughter did gymnastics a few yrs back and it was roughly $120ish for 12 weeks. came out to about $10/practice session which were only 45 min long once a week.

All the sports we tried, when you average the hours out that you spend with a coach, they all come out around $1000 per yr. more or less.

Our fees were $1200 this yr for U15 CDL. and $850ish for U11 CDL.
