If he's a "good friend" then tell him so. Shouldn't friend be able to tell each other anything? Tell him he's embarrassing the team and his child. If that doesn't work, stop sitting next to him on the sidelines.

Yep, if it is a good friend tell them. They may not even realize they are doing it. If they are not a good friend, tell them anyway but be prepared for them to tell you a few things.

Tell him that you'll let the ref know where he works, so the ref can go yell at him while he does his job to see how he likes it

I think someone like this would probably only listen to a good friend.
I would video tape him during a match and then let him see the
video replay. If doesn't fix it nothing will.

cool, sit next to him, and video the game. Then, show him a few plays where he's yelling. He'll ask who that is making all the noise, he realizes it's him, and then it sinks in that he's making a fool of himself!

Then, at the next game, he starts up again.

I've had to tell soccer moms (including my own wife) not to berate players on the opposing team.

Listen jerk next time say it to my face not on some anonymous thread on TS.
Oh and I will yell and scream all I want this season, maybe if your kid did his job
I would have to yell so much.

How about you go take the ref course and grab a whistle? Be part of the solution, not part of the problem!
