    Dedication to a soccer club

What are your experiences when trying out for 2 competitive clubs? Has anyone received backlash from their home club?

    #2
We were at a small club with parent coaching. The realized a larger club would provide better training for our child. We attend local games now and then and they always get a very warm reception. Good experience.

True statement...TBU tells their female players if they tryout for ECNL at WFF, and they do not make the ECNL team, they will not be able to come back and play for TBU. Yes, as selfish as that sounds, some clubs just think they are better than others even at he expense of the players. In other words, do not try to better yourself just stay down here with us! As they say, "misery loves company"!

Pretty hypocritical but it sure does happen. Clubs want all the kids from other clubs to try out with them so they can lure them away but dont want their kids to try out anywhere else. Just another glaring example of how we are doing youth sports so wrong.

          Try out wherever you want

Do not worry tryout any where you want. You never know when or why a club will turn on you and not invite you back. Had that happen to my son 3 year starter on Top 10 team in FL.

No invite back did not tryout anywhere else. No reason given by coach just we are going in different direction. Son is known in area so finding team was not an issue but I will never let it happen again.

Biggest issue is if you did not want my son back you knew on the first day of tryouts. Why not let him know. I guess the mantra it is about the players is just a bunch of Bull.

Have good friends still at the club so I will eventually find out the true story why he was not invited back. Probably politics of club and me holding them to what they say they are going to do and put in writing in the player contract. I guess a holding someone accountable and asking questions is a problem.

I am the customer making a decision on where to spend 10k on a soccer season. I would expect you to be accountable.

So tryout wherever you want and be open about it.

That is absolutely not true. My daughter tried out at WFF, made the ECNL team, and was welcomed back when she declined her spot. She is not the only one. Coaches for both clubs were understanding and great to communicate with during that time.

We are fortunate to have two excellent girls programs in our community, and that girls have a choice as to what program feels right at any given time. Both clubs provide excellent opportunities to the girls on their top teams as well. Bay area players are lucky to have options.

Coaches and Docs and EDs all say I want player to pursue all opportunities and decide which program is best for them. The minute you go and tryout somewhere else. In particular if you go to DA tryouts they turn on you and take it out on the player.

That happens elsewhere too, though they may not actually say it.

Totally untrue!!!! Go and talk to GF. He will tell you to go and explore other clubs, not every coach will be a good fit for your kid. You may not like the style of GF, AB, NO, ER, JC, TV, MR, RM, MC, SG.... TBU will not hold it against you, an individual coach may (AB??)!!!!

Do soccer clubs intentionally schedule games and/or tournaments to ensure their kids wont be able to tryout for other teams? Are the dates for tryouts strategically selected?

Respectfully to the person you commented on, isn't that individual's experience valid? I'm glad the club was supportive for you, but what about the other parents? Just saying its "untrue" doesnt mean it didnt happen. Different families get different experiences for one reason or the other.

Do not know about games or tournaments. But for tryouts they are all the same times and dates and the say if you want to make a team it is best that you come to all the try out sessions.

I heard this to, but think it was truely one coach. I am sure if gone to the top of the club it could be worked out, but who really wants to deal with the after feelings.

The two clubs really went after each other after ECNL went to WFF, but with a few coaches switching to each other clubs and RB leaving WFF, the animosity towards each other has lessen a lot. While not driving their players to the others try outs, they are understanding when choosing one over the other. Still rivals, but a love hate relationship that works enough.

Respectfully, the poster did not refer to one personal experience, but to the club as a whole. This is why I responded. Each player and parent experience will be different, and each is valid, but you should not call a whole club out for it unless it is widespread.

Certainly each coach has their own reaction when a player tries out for another team, and some will handle it more professionally than others.

when you play for a team you are contractually obligated to that club until after state cup is complete.

Then you are a free agent. ENCL and DA are the only tryouts that are not considered poaching.
