NEFC and Black Watch Premier Announce Merger

A message from President Brian Mazar
    To NEFC members,

New England Futbol Club (NEFC) and Black Watch Premier Soccer Club are pleased to announce that the two clubs have agreed to merge. As of the June tryouts, the combined club will officially compete under the name NEFC, and will standout as one of the largest and most competitive effective with NEFC membership ratification. NEFC has grown to become one of the largest premier youth soccer clubs in New England with over 2000 players.

NEFC has seen rapid growth and strong Regional and National success in the past 5 years. In 2009, New England Eagles FC merged with FC Puma to create NEFC and in 2012, NEFC merged with Grasshoppers FC.

Black Watch Premier President and Founder, Scott Cannon, established the club in 2004 with 2 teams and has worked diligently to expand it to 15 teams. "It is the structure and mission of NEFC as a non-for-profit 501(C)(3) along with their professional staff, regional structure, Elite teams and additional programming that made this such an attractive opportunity. This powerful merger creates exciting opportunities for both organizations as well as the competitive players in the area. The NEFC partnership will bring value to families in the Rhode Island region by providing access to the resources of one of the largest, and most professional youth soccer development infrastructures in the northeast. By combining our resources, there will be tremendous growth opportunities which will enable us to rival any club in the region", stated Scott Cannon.

"NEFC is excited to have Scott and the entire Black Watch Premier organization join the NEFC family. "Scott brings with him a wealth of experience related to developing and running successful youth soccer programs. He has been at the forefront of youth development in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. It quickly became evident that Black Watch Premier and NEFC’s goals and missions were aligned. The geographic expansion into Rhode Island with a quality club such as Black Watch is strategically important to us. NEFC will be able to provide a path for Black Watch’s elite players to develop in an elite environment." stated Brian Mazar, President, NEFC.

This merger creates an exciting time for both organizations and competitive players in the area. With the merger, NEFC will have a greater geographic reach with current training facilities in Attleboro, Belmont, Berlin, Braintree, Concord, Dartmouth, Fall River, Holliston, Hudson, Lexington, Mansfield, Marlboro, Medford, Millis, Newton, Norfolk, Seekonk, Somerville, Taunton, Waltham, and Weston. NEFC will train throughout Rhode Island, the metro-north, central Massachusetts, south shore and south coast regions, which will allow for convenient accessibility for the serious soccer player.

NEFC will also have an extensive Regional Development Program for players aged 6 to 10 run by NEFC’s professional coaching staff. NEFC will have over 300 players in its rapidly growing Regional Development Centers with training in close proximity to players’ neighborhoods.

"Black Watch has been a close neighbor and respected rival since NEFC started operating out of the Fall River area. Given our geographic proximity, Black Watch and NEFC South Coast will start working together immediately to both ensure a smooth transition for our new partner and to strengthen our own program. After years of exchanging players and coaches, we're excited to play for the same team", stated Pat Marino, Regional Coaching Director South Coast Region.

NEFC SC seems to be suffering a bit lately, they apparently need an infusion of new talent. Their younger teams have not been doing as well this season.

The NEFC SC girls teams are doing fine. I think where this helps NEFC more is to build up their boys side, especially in this region where the boys have been more apt to go to Blackwatch or Bruno. This new NEFC RI region will help with that cause a lot.

is this an attempt to creep through the backdoor and into the ECNL as a RI team? would be funny to hear NEFC begin to sing the praises of the ECNL after bashing it since it started

If any team from RI ever gets into ECNL. In which I highly doubt this will never happen. It won't be a newly formed branch of NEFC. The combination of two weak clubs blackwatch& NEFC s&c. Are not going to get in before Bayside FC. Not going to happen. If anything the better girls from these clubs may go to Bayside FC.

This merger was financial based and to get a few more teams to help the SC program that is starting to fail. Blackwatch teams have very few players that could make the regional teams rosters and pulls another club out of MAPLE like a previous poster stated. The bigger clubs will continue to merge with smaller clubs and we will she a shift to more super clubs in the near future with GPS, NEFC, Stars and Breakers making strong pushes in all regions of the state in the next few years.

The only way another team from NE gets into the ECNL is if a team gets kick out and it does not look like that is going to happen any time soon and I don't think it will be the team NEFC wants. NEFC should work out a plan with the Boston Breakers and have a true super club that is actually a meaningful merger for players and actually effecting the soccer landscape in MA

Maybe that is in the works. The word floating around is that the Breakers are in the process of buying out the Scorpions owner so they can be done with him. Merging with NEFC would appear to be the next logical step if the Breakers actually want to make money.

Why is is it that every conversation on this forum always ends up being about ENCL? What we care about is DAP and will one of the big dogs ever get DAP status.

Pretty sure the conversation to merge with NEFC, was started by BW. They have been slipping ever since the dissolve of the partnership with Crusaders and FH. Good for the south coast area and N RI. Think that NEFC learned from not jumping on Stingrays last year, when they had a chance. This is going to make the stars in the south a little tougher. Going to be interesting to see if CSU responds to this? They're not a tiny little club anymore. 1000 kids and 60 teams. With Galway slipping, might be worth a conversation. Is the decision to go north, and not focus everything on the base of the south, going to be Scorps/Breakers demise?

Can't see it happening! Ive heard CH and LB are good friends, but they don't own these clubs. If anything happens, it would be a buyout with some real dollars this time. Not just gobbling up a dying club.

SC knew Blackwatch was on its last legs and he tried to sell it to anyone who would take it.

Scott approached to other clubs at national convention. All about money for him.

At least Scott had enough to smarts to find the ones who could actually buy. In that respect he is miles up on Fred, no?
