    Predictions for Andre Cup 2014?

As the Maple season begins this weekend, do we have any predictions for the Andre Cup? Are the U11 boy counterparts of the Strikers, Explosion, NEFC (south in this case), PTUSA, and Blazers as good as their older compadres?

I predict the games will primarily consist of pseudo elitist parents coaching from the sidelines, team players who just want to have fun, ice cream at Kimball's & a bunch of speed traps on rte 2.

MAPLE Blue and Green Fall look dismal. There is one team whose motto is to play in a NON-competitive environment and another with a fake website. Both divisions have too many teams so some teams will not play each other.

NEP 'Premiership' is better? There are multiple teams that couldn't win a single game this past weekend. And those teams will probably beat many of the other weaker NEP powerhouse teams. Don't kid yourself. 40 top teams means ALL u11s will play half their games against glorified town teams.

A small ice cream is the equivalent of 4 large ones in my youth.

Sadly, the Andre Cup is yet another event that has been essentially ruined by the creation of NEP. Only a few short years ago this was a terrific end of year tournament that pitted all of the best U11 teams in MA against each other in a group stage/knockout round tourney. Now the teams are split up due to the two leagues, and the event is a shadow of its former self. On the bright side, at least the price of club soccer for U11s has increased for all. Plus we all get to travel more.

Looks like a waste of time for the better teams this year. Blowouts (more than 4 GD) in the spring are supposed to be rare, but they are already starting.

June 7 & June 8 Andre Cup (U11) Round Robin, Promotion Games, Qualifying Games

June 14 & 15 Irwin Cup finals, Andre Cup finals, Promotion Games, U13 Tournament

                              It's over 2 weekends--kind of a pain too.
