Stars U14s to be U15s in Fall applied then pulled their application. They would have been accepted due to being Region 1 Champions. I heard that to much travelling was involved in the decision to pull the application as they have already committed to go to Disney at Christmas time. Also Vegas in March and PDA in May where it has been rumoured they will be part of the new Red Bull league group. I heard the club were asked to be part of the Red Bull League from the start but could not comitt to the August tournament in Northern California. They have been asked to join for the following two tournament/league play dates. The National league could not give specific places the games will be held but Dallas over Thanksgiving and Arizona in Feb where mentioned. I also believe this is the case for their U15s going into U16.

Interesting "acceptances" from Region 1 for the rising GU15s. HS seasons may be a factor as well for a club's decision not to join. Arguably, the 2 Region 1 clubs accepted are only the top #4 & #5 clubs in Region 1 (behind Stars, Scorpions Elite, and BRYC Azul (VA). Again, arguably. Ouch on the fall travel budgets!
In order to apply for the USYSA national league you needed to have played the prior year in a regional Premier league, so some R1 teams like BraddocK road, Delco or CFC Wolves were not eligible for acceptance. The other interesting thing is that some of these teams are in BOTH the USYSA set and the RED BULL league. Talk about travel. Ultimately if the Stars or Scorps stay at their lofty position they will need to get into one of these leagues in order to secure top spots in the elite college showcases, but that will mean those teams will play in-state only in a couple of R1 Premier home games and the state cup.

This is not true as an example: Red bull league will be playing some of their league games at The PDA tournament and Vegas tournament. They will not be part of the tournaments but will be playing 1 game a day at the tournaments as part of the league play. If anything this might bring a few more college coaches to those tournaments and never mind the fact the Vegas tournament is not good idea for east coast teams( Unless of course you have a lot of kids trying to go to school out west) but that is another point all together.
The US National league will be playing a lot of their games at the same time a lot of the top college showcases will be going on so the teams in those leagues will not be at the tournaments. They will also be playing on weekends when there are not too many tournaments so one would think a lot of the college coaches would go to those weekends and still attend the major tournaments.

Boys and Girls play slated to begin this Fall
League to provide greater opportunities for elite club players and direct entry into US Youth Soccer National Championships
FRISCO, TEXAS (July 16, 2007) – US Youth Soccer is proud to announce the first teams chosen for the US Youth Soccer National League, the organization’s latest offering for elite club soccer players seeking to advance their college, professional and U.S. National Team aspirations.
For elite-level teams, the US Youth Soccer National League is a natural extension of the current system of leagues within the four regions of US Youth Soccer. Top teams from each of the four US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues earn their way into the National League.
The new league will create a direct path to the annual US Youth Soccer National Championships. The National Championships, established in 1976, is the culmination of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series where the nation’s champions are crowned in six age groups for boys and girls.

Paul Luchowski, US Youth Soccer National League Commissioner believes the quality of teams applying to be second to none. “US Youth Soccer has long stood as the leader in youth soccer and in the organization of events that allow the country’s youth to showcase their talents in an environment that is designed for the players. The addition of the National League provides a truly national opportunity for players to develop and test themselves in meaningful competition.â€
As is the case with the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series events and the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program, the National League creates another significant opportunity for the nation’s collegiate, professional and national team staffs to see players in an environment of meaningful play.
The top four finishers in National League play in each age group will retain their slots in the league for the 2008-09 season provided that the teams meet all eligibility requirements.
US Youth Soccer National League | Overview
Competition will be held for the nation’s top teams in the Under-15 and Under-16 age groups, boys and girls. Each gender age group will have eight teams. The league will offer additional exposure to collegiate, professional and U.S. National Team coaches and offer top notch competition. National League teams will continue play in their respective US Youth Soccer State Championships and Regional Leagues.
Teams: The top boys and girls youth soccer clubs
Age Groups: U-15 and U-16 teams; providing opportunities for more than 2,000 players
Competition Format: Each team will play a seven-game schedule, one head-to-head game in each age group. The schedule for 2007 will be announced shortly. The top two teams, from each age group, advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Future Expansion: The Under-17 age group, boys and girls, will be added for the 2008-09 season year. The number of teams selected to participate in 2008-09 has yet to be determined. An increase in the number of teams in each gender age group is subject to the approval of the US Youth Soccer Board of Directors
@ 15 Vardar and Wolves both did not advance out of their group at regionals
@ 16 One of the two teams is a IL SEMI-FINALIST that did not get into regionals at all, and the other team got beat in the semis at regionals by Vardar's B team. Maybe including one of these two teams due to the fact that many of the best U16 teams in the midwest are joining the USSF academy
@ U16 Region 1 team didn't even get to quarterfinals in State Cup.
The only qualification for this league seems to be the ability to pay airfare.

Mock the league as you will, but a lot people see things differently than you. It takes a while for any new league to really get going, and this seems to be starting quite strong. This new league and these clubs are going to be the object of a lot of attention and that will draws other clubs like flies to honey.
