It's very sad. You have a bunch of egomaniacs controlling the board, and half of them haven't a clue what they're doing. They don't call it the "friends and family plan" for a reason. Thank God for club soccer.

Usually complaints like yours are from the parents of players that matured early, and were always stronger and faster than the other children. Because they got by on their athleticism they never really worried about foot skills. Once the other children caught up in both size and speed the skills became the important, differentiating factor. That's usually at the U12 - U14 age level. I've seen it dozens of times in our town and the complaint whispered at the soccer fields is of some grand conspiracy by the Great & Powerful Oz behind the curtain.
I think soccer board members are insane, but I've rarely seen egomaniac apply. I'm more than happy to just show up to the games and go home. Those poor souls seem to be at a soccer field all the time. Maybe they are involved to help their kids out. If that's the case, and it helps their players out a little, I can live with that.
If you want to change the culture on the soccer board in your town try to join. I'm sure they could use all the volunteers they can get.
Now high school, that's an entirely different animal.......

The problem with town soccer is that the vast majority of volunteers are there for their kids. If you want to see change at the town level, get involved AFTER your kids leave.

I volunteered for a soccer board for a couple of years. I had to quit because I couldn't take all the back stabbing. Many of the parents were in it to advance their child or garnish some sort of control over other parents because of their position in the organization. When parents take advantage and advance their child undeservingly, they steal an opportunity away from another (like placing their average player on an A team for example). The child who worked hard and should have made the A team is devasted. I've seen decent, hard working people's reputations ruined because board member mommy didn't want him to coach her child. She spread nasty rumors about him and destroyed his chances. I could go on and on.
The behavior of some of these people was enough to make anyone sick.
and then there's club soccer....................

It amazes me how bad things can get and yet everyone
doesn't seem to matter enough to change it. Crummy parents trying to control everything.

Problem solved.

HS soccer may soon be going the way of the dinosaur...take a look at what CT is doing. Clubs are now going to a 10month schedule and players will have to chose between high school and club.

Top players will stay with clubs...it's already happening with town. At U12 players are getting pulled away from town in the fall. NEP, MAPLE, ECNL, DAP or Regional leagues could easily handle it..
Have a look....
