    CT Cup rosters

Does anyone have any feel for how/if CJSA will change the limits on dual rostering for the spring? They created quite the firestorm this fall when they limited CT Cup rosters to only three players on another team (i.e. premier). This affected mostly U11 teams where they are mostly training. Many "premier" clubs now register players with US Club soccer so this is loophole they are looking to close. I have heard that there are older teams with up to 9 premier players from several different clubs on one CT Cup roster.

Should they should eliminate dual rostering in it's entirety?

This is, and always has been a difficult situation.

Years ago, when premier first started , the early Clubs did quite a bit of damage in breaking up Town teams, often filling rosters with questionable players. The decision back then was either the team or Town club would make the decision.

Club soccer has changed the landscape dramatically for children playing soccer in CT over the past 15 years. New Clubs have been created, some have become monster size, and other Clubs have faded away.

DAP and Club soccer , in many cases , would even be happy to have High School soccer be a non-event. It is ironic that HS sports, specifically through the CIAC in this state, organized in the early part of the 20th Century to avoid the exploitation of children, is now under threat once again by a market driven by businesses content to line their pockets .

Case in point, on another forum, some people are all worked up because the HS finals might compete with a College Showcase the same weekend. It isn't enoough that Clubs have children playing soccer spring, into summer , fall ( under HS age ) and winter, they almost want a full monopoly. One only has only to notice that HS sports are for one season only per sport, to promote versatility and balance, and have no such thing as " National Champions ".

I would answer your question in that CT Cup should only be for non-Club ( Premier ) players. Let the market straighten itself out. CJSA never has any sort of plan or grand scheme to integrate Club Soccer into the scenario, just a tired slogan like " promote Premier Play "

15 years later, the soccer is watered down, the cost has gone way up, and the results are questionable. Sure, some big Clubs roll out all those numbers of players making College rosters, but in a genuine study of the scenario, more data would have to be incorporated.

          Below from cjsa website:

501-6 Premier Teams/Players No team participating in the Premier League, U13 Qualifying League or the Fall U-14 Premier League may enter the Connecticut Cup for that playing season. No more than 3 rostered premier players participating in the Premier League, U13 Qualifying League or the Fall U-14 Premier League may be rostered on a Connecticut Cup team for that playing season. (September 2011)

Seems like a reasonable rule. How could 9 premier players end up on a CT Cup roster as suggested....if that is what happened?

Poorly drafted rule. It allows kids to play CT Cup even if they are rostered to teams that play DAP, ECNL, Region 1 Premier League or NE Subregional League. Just can't be rostered to a team that plays in one of CJSA's premier leagues.

This all started last year when a team registered to play in premier qualifying league and most of the players were from the same town. They dropped the few out of town players for Cup roster, entered CT Cup and won. Of course this is unfair so the club presidents had to vote on a new rule to prevent this from happening again.

Fast forward to this year and premier clubs are registering their players with US Club Soccer. CJSA and US Club Soccer are separate organizations so players do not show as being on dual rosters for CJSA so you can have 18 premier players on a classic travel team.

CJSA will just need to revise the rule for next year. Might be too late to switch it for the Spring because now travel teams may be left in a bind. It's not that difficult. The better kids move on from travel to premier at U13 anyway so this rule is just excelerating the process and now U11 kids will have to decide if they want to move on to premier or stick with travel only.

                  CJSA CT Cup rostering rules

CJSA report claims they will "fix" the premier rostering loophole this spring. In Boys U12 Cup they had a disaster (still underway) leaving a wake of protests including one team (last year's finals team) refusing to play their match in protest.
Apparently (per CJSA report) the FSA United Premier coaches and the West Hartford TNT coach "schemed" to exploit the CJSA loophole in the rules. They loaded up the TNT team with 14 premier players. Interesting that the only premier team in CT to figure out this loophole was the one that shares the same building at CJSA. Terrible example for the kids.
Rumor that CJSA considering banning these coaches from future Cup play for their actions.

You mean the " better kids" who have families that can afford the price of Premier soccer ?

Now these " better kids " with familes who can afford it will have to make their minds up at even an earlier age.

Just checked the CJSA website and FSA doesn't even have teams in the Fall CJSA leagues in the 11 & 12 boys age groups. So where is the scheme?

Just checked FSA United website. 2 Boys U12 premier teams.

1 (U12 Navy) has 10 players that list their hometown as West Hartford.

2nd (U12 White) has 2 players from WH.

Are all 12 of these players on the West Hartford CT Cup roster? The "TNT" team in the final in the brackets. Anyone know?

Yes the TNT team in the finals has at least 12 FSA premier players. This was all laid out in the recent CJSA report about this team.

So let me get this straight, FSA United didnt register any teams under U13 both boys and girls for the fall CJSA league just so WH U12 boys could win the Cup? Let's get real. No one is complaining the Fairfield United FC is in the Boys U13 Finals even though they have recently entered the Premier League at other ages. How could Stamford complain when they have teams entered in the Premier League at other ages? Maybe the real problem is CJSA not being able to say no to travel teams wanting to play in the Premier Leagues. The whole system is a mess thanks to CJSA!!!!!!!!!!
