    U13 State Cup

How are the top 8 seeds determined especially now that there are two main leagues (MAPLE and NEP)?

    1 SF Vikings
    2 FC Blazers
    3 AC Arlington-R
    4 Scorpions SC
    5 FC Stars of Mass-C
    6 NE Aztec
    7 NEFC-G
    8 Western United FC

The top 4 teams automatically make it to the round-robin ...and the 5-8th seeded teams automatically make it to the 3rd round (without playing a single match) All the other teams and have to play elimination games (which in itself doesn't seem fair) to advance to the 3rd round (and earn the "privilege" of playing these top seeded teams).

All the above 8 teams played in MAPLE last year. This year, several of these clubs (Western United, FC Stars, Aztec, Scorpions ) moved to NEP so it should be even more interesting how they come up with next years top 8 seeded U13 teams.

Seeding does not make any sense

Sachems dad here. We are seeded #23 . Yet we barely lost to the #10 seeded MPS Bulldogs team (a game we came close to winning).

Maybe they go by the gotSoccer rankings (which are hilarious)

These seedings are based on last years results. How else would you do it? These 8 teams are the best in MA

Perhaps. But how will they do the seedings next year when half of the best teams are in NEP, the other half in MAPLE?

Good question? I think the answer will have to be answered by MYSA. Then you can all start bitching. Until then just enjoy your kids playing.

It will probably suck for the NEP teams. Because the W-L thing doesn't matter as much. LOL

You are wrong and you will soon see why. I'll use last year's U13 boys State Cup results as an example. MPS was ranked #26 and ended up losing in the finals on PK's. If these seedings were even close to being accurate then there is no way a #26 seed would contend for the championship. It's the best MYSA could come up with but it's definitely flawed. I'm not proposing an alternative system but everyone should realize that the seedings are a joke and also quite unfair to the lower seeded teams. This is particularly noteworthy relative to when each team is required to lock in their rosters. The #9 seed and higher are required to lock their rosters before their first SC game which takes place in the fall. The RR teams have the ability to wait until their first game which doesn't happen until mid-spring. How is this fair?

I dont think the MPS team played against Mass competition until their U13 season and it also included adding a VERY STRONG player who was held back from the then U14 team..... Hence the reason they were a 26 seed. So to reiterate, the history of the team was weak to begin with and only got better when they held at least one player (Maybe more) back.

And they deserved to be in the Finals. They played strong and spirited defensive soccer and IMHO their only downfall was they weren't as conditioned as their opponent but were able to keep them from scoring.

Is it the locked in roster you think is unfair? Very rarely do kids change teams mid-season after their parents have already paid. Also what kids do you think could play on one of these top teams that are not already playing for another team. You know that if a kid plays in a state cup game earlier in the Fall he or she is not allowed to play for another team in the Spring. If so the Club gets fined and the coach gets a one year suspension. So unless one of the Clubs is rercuiting from out of State, which is very rare, then the roster argument does not have much merit. Although AC Arlington did try to bring in kids from NY last year, but they didn't show up.

And Vikings brought in the kid from Valeo and then were disqualified.

It is amazing what people will do? New York players for a MA state cup? That takes the cake.

This years U13 Bulldogs are nothing like last years U13. They were ok at the VW tournament but this was due to a couple of exceptional U12 players (one in particular with great dribbling and finishing skills) who made things happen.

This year's U13 has two excellent players, but more importantly they need to play and move as a team using those two players. Otherwise, it will be a game like the one played against Sachems, except much worse against the better seeded teams.
