U13B Bolts A Team knocked out of State Cup

I noticed that the Bolts Boys U13 A team (coached by MG) lost 7-0 to Valeo in the State Cup. Wow! What's up with this team? They are at the bottom of their NEP league too.

MPS Bulldogs barely squeaked by Sachems (basically a town team) 4-3!

Presumably these are their BEST players?!? Is this the best the top two clubs in MA can offer? Shameful.

The Bolts team has been discussed extensively on the U13 boys thread. From what I understand, the team that played in the State Cup is their NEP team, which is basically their B team plus a few players from the 98 Pre-Academy team, which does not play State Cup.

Yes. This is their b team. Their a team is pre-academy. The b team would be better served in a "b" division.

Bolts has only 1 U13 Boys team listed on their web site - this is the team coached by MG that is in NEP and the State Cup. They are listed as "U13 Premier"

Since there is no other U13B Bolts team, this makes it their only U13 team (therefore this is the best they can offer at U13- hence their "A" team).

They do not have a '99 Pre-academy team. This is their only u13 boys team.

No that is incorrect. The top players for the Bolts are not playing in NEP or MAPLE, they are playing pre-academy. This team is not their top players.

MPS Bulldogs coaches worked "very hard" to find their best players this year- even took someone from their U12 team to shore up the defense. LOL 4-3 win over a glorified town team is embarrassing.

Nope. Pre-academy is 1998 calendar year- so yes, *some* of their best player players born Aug 1-Dec 31 1998 went to Pre-academy '98. All the others (born Jan 1 - July31 1999) couldn't make the age cutoff so they stayed in U13 - so this U13 team is their only U13 team.

Show me a '99 Pre-academy Bolts team- there isn't one.

The best of the 99s are on the 98 pre-academy team (just like the best of the 98s play on the 97 pre-academy team).

Even if this is true, why didn't the Bolts put together their best U13's (born Aug 1 1998 to July 31 1999) for the State Cup?!

It is very unlikely that BA would allow a B team to represent Bolts U13 in the State Cup.
                    7-0 loss to Valeo!?!

BA let a B team represent the Bolts in the U13 State Cup because the A team players are being fast-tracked for the DAP and the A team simply does not participate in USYSA events anymore. They are on a separate competitive track now, just as DAP-aged players no longer play events outside of DAP.

Why not do both? It's not like they are doing well in Pre-academy either.

(losing 7-1 to an average Met-Oval team)

I don't think the CT pre-academy teams play state cup anymore either. I suspect that the 98s are just a down year for the Bolts, and that they'll pick up the best 98s who don't go to the Revs in the next year or two.

The NY, NJ, PA and MD Pre-academy teams all compete in their State Cups (Albertson, Met Oval, PDA, PA classics, Baltimore Bays etc..)

Maybe the Bolts don't want to play their pre-academy teams in the State Cup because outside of the Blazers and the occasional MPS team, they won't get much competition and they want to concentrate their efforts on pre-academy.
