View Full Version : MVPs
MVPs of each age group (G&B)?
U14 Girls MVP
Stephanie McCaffrey - Stars
Don't know her name but the Scorps u15 keeper should get it. She made a least 5 top notch saves to keep the Scorps in the game.
Butlin was huge, especially in o/t.
Both teams had many candidates for MVP.
Saw the Scorps U15 and they just seemed to run of of steam--they seemed to have a lot of injuries --and that last minute of play was at 3+ on my watch--there keeper was good in overtime but many of their other players were incredible during the entire game--they had a couple of mid fielders that were outstanding--I would love to get them on my team. They never have up..its funny the MVP usually goes to someone who as done good toward the end of the game--not those that continue to give it there all the whole --No connection to either team--but I felt the Scorp got a bad deal and the Stars squeaked away with that one==

Boys U14: Felix DeBona of Boston Blast. A very talented player who scored some spectacular goals.

I've seen Felix play he is very gifted. I know he made the regional ODP pool, did he attend the national camp last summer? I'm not sure if the midfielder for the Bolts was the only MA player to make the 93 national camp. That player (Bolts midfielder), will be training with Birmingham City from the English premiership next fall.

Ahh, what I was hoping for -- some recognition given to defense (other than goalie) and maybe someday to a defensive midfielder who never scores goals but keeps the team in the game with consistent, steady play (think Shalrie Joseph, although technically not accurate because he does score goals).

I think it is pretty common for local players to have similar articles in the local paper. Many papers will not include kids' names from out of town.

Many of the less selfish efforts however, will have a more team oriented aspect.
Just to clarify - the article was not about Felix.
The Boston Globe actually wrote something about a club soccer event. :smt038 So what that the article wasn't written the way some parents would have liked.
Club soccer is generally totally ignored by the traditional print outlets.
To get any coverage is a minor victory.

Yes, that was the point. He was the MVP. But the parents who submitted the article neglected Felix and the rest of the boys, and the coach who did great preparation work. Reading that article, you might think the game was 1 v 11.
I think we're all for publicity..........but the selfishness of this is totally self-centered.
I think these accusations are awful, what proof do you have that the parents "submitted" the article? Never mind, don't answer that, this thread is nauseating. The poor kid, he is all but named and you adults are trashing him.
The original article was in a "hometown" paper, and it was all about the single player. It has a reporter's by line. It was obviously then picked up by the Globe and edited down.

He's a really nice kid to have on the team, but this is typical of those parents.......In their minds, it's as if we'd crumble to pieces without him........
If your beef is with the parents then talk to them. It's not hard to figure out which player you are talking about, he's a good kid and a talented player. If you feel slighted because of what his parents did THEN TALK TO THEM! Don't discredit this kid on a public forum for something as meaningless and trivial as this issue is.

Gotta love those over-zealous parents! Felix is a kid who scored some spectacular goals for his team, and is named state cup MVP. Then I run across this bit in a recent Globe article (I edited out the names):
[edited
There were plenty of other boys on this team that contributed, but I guess none of them had self-promoting parents......
I feel sorry for the other boys on the team who also had something to do with their state cup championship.
It was nice that you blocked out the names, but this type of post is inappropriate. It is specific to a particular child and accuses parents of doing something they might or might not have done.
Not every kid will be named in every article and every parent wants to see their kid's name in print. But it is really not that big of a deal. So if you really care, write the article yourself next time and it will look like you want it to. All of the posts specifically referencing the child in an identifiable manner have been deleted.
