Of the three teams they are sending, two are in top flights and one is not.
Scorpions have two top flight teams.
NE Aztec and Bolts have two teams not in top-flights.
and............................................... .......
The Stars have one team being sent that is NOT in a top flight.
Can we now dispense with this thread???

Wow!! Ding dong the witch is dead....
The U11 ARE in the championship flight. There are two divisions (A and B) to allow semifinals and/or finals.
The U12 are not in the first flight
There is no U13 NEFC team.
The U16 NEFC is in the Championship flight. There are three divisions (A, B, and C)

At these ages it hardly matters what division they are in, so why all the anx? Do well in your division and eventually it will pay off when it does matter.

And March tournaments are tough for New England teams - not going to get a lot of outdoor practice with this weather. All the indoor training (or small plowed outdoor fields) is great, but the fitness will not be there yet. There will be lots of teams from VA, NC, etc. that will be able to get outside and play by late Feb. So be careful what you wish for - as long as the bracket has reasonably comparable talent you'll be all set - and seems like you are worrying about U13 and below - like the other guy said do well wherever you are placed and you'll be building for later years when it matters more

Down here in North Carolina we practice year round outdoor, the local club rents diesel powered generators and lights for evening practice even! (i.e to keep the cash flowing in) And Girls HS season starts Feb12, 1st real game is Mar 2...
There are probably only a handful of days in the winter when you can not practice outdoor due to ice or snow or rain -
We were accepted for the Jeff Cup (AC Sandhills 18's), looking forward to drawing some rusty, snowbound, shut-in, northern teams...our rain today looks like another foot of snow removal emergeny funding for you

we also played 3 tourneys this winter ---
Dec 4-5 - Nike Cup - Atlanta
Jan 9 - Mt Olive Showcase
Jan 20-21 - Triangle Friendlies
The weather was pretty good, -- mostly temps in the 40's-50's - Sunny...
Had an 8:00am game in Atlanta that was probably 35, windy...one teams parents brought a portable heater to stand around...

Not so-fast. Hate to go off-topic by continuing this tangential and irrelevant discussion, but comparing NC's second best university (after Duke) to the school that any half decent Mass high school grad applies to as their "safety" school isn't exactly being fair. (No offense intended to UMass...up here we all know that it is indeed a very fine and competitive school that attracts a lot to high-level students and offers them a great experience on a par with those private schools with better "reputations")
But anyway, after Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill and Wake Forest, what else is there in NC?
Meanwhile, we have the two in Cambridge, the two "Bs" along Comm Ave, Tufts, Amherst, Williams, Babson...et al
Just try getting into those schools...
That said, Mass (#1) and NC (#2) are far and away the two most highly educated states in the country from a demographics standpoint using this statistics that IS very relevant: Percentage of the population 25 and older who have at least a BA or BS degree. (We use these types of statistics all the time in the field I work in in helping to evaluate where to locate our offices).

So I compared the Higher Education Public Institutes in the states - UMass vs UNC -- anyone can pay the $55K/yr and go to Williams or Duke so long you get in...but for in-state $14k/yr I'll take the UNC diploma over the UMass...
Here are the 95% selectivity OBJECTIVE measurements from collegeboard.com - looks to me like the smart kids from NC recognize a bargain...

This is ridiculous. MA public universities just aren't that great, OK? We know that. On the other hand, our private ones are plentiful and totally kick butt, if you can afford them or get a scholarship. UNC is a terrific public college education. So are all the UC's (UCLA, UC Berkley, UC Santa Barbara, etc., etc). And again, CA does not have a ton of private choices. They have some very good ones, but nothing like the plethora of choices we have here in MA.
I was once told by someone who works for UMass that the problem is that the many of people who sit on the board of UMass also sit on the boards of the high power privates, and there is a conflict of interest. If the public option was to get enough money to really compete with the private (i.e., if UMass Amherst could give you a Harvard level degree for a fraction of the cost) many of the pricey privates would take a serious hit. So there is no motivation to lift UMass up to the level of UNC. Business interests strike again.

Trollheal,
Let's get a bit real here.
Your team has 177 GotSoccer points, 559th ranked in the country. You won the fourth division of Greensboro, a group with a grand total of 156 total points, at U18 no less.

Is this guy really looking at the U18 Jefferson Cup as some sort of valuable read on comparative team quality?? Exactly which U18 player expects to get a recruiting advantge at that tournament?? They are designed to get some early competition and honestly I'd say the local March/April offerings from the Scorps and MPS are significantly better options. BTW, maybe Tarheel should get in touch with the Scorps and Stars and offer themselves up to play those U18 teams in some late spring "friendlies" and then report back about how weak the Massachusrtts competition is!!!

Currently 70 coaches registered for Girls Jeff Cup -- usually more will show up; registered include:
Northern schools: Vermont, Clark, Bowdoin, Sienna, Lasell, Bryant, RPI, Rochester and a bunch of SUNY schools
BTW - According to Soccerincollege there are only two ranked teams in MA 18's-
MPS and Stars -- Ranked 7th and 93rd --nationaly -- no others in top 400
In NC there are 68 ranked teams in Girls18's- ACS Sandhills 23rd in the group (#219 national) rankings ranging from #41 to #396
The rankings don't reflect the teams wins in the Triangle Friendlies over #'s 245 and #276 yet..
Also we tied the Nations #20 team and won over #36 in December in Atlanta
All this from a little area of 30,000 folks (Pinehurst) -- most of the kids on the local HS team, only 4 Srs, a team that has been to the state quarterfinals the past two years in the 4a division (schools larger than 1500 students)
it would be like North Adams fielding a team ranked that highly...
And the Boys HS team has been to the Semi-Finals the past two years...we do like our soccer here...
So we would love to host your girls teams for some friendlies, But HS soccer starts feb 15 here, 24 game schedule then playoffs that can go 6 rounds...
Just the week of Easter off / available.
I'll bet spring looks a long way off staring out your window now....

Soccer in College has as much value as GorSoccer. You have to enter your own results in order for a ranking to occur. With GotSoccer, at a minimum, the finalks and semi's are entered automatically. The best system is MathMan's. Where are you in the list?

Jeff Cup has always been a nice event. But understand that the only coaches watching the U18 girls teams at this point will be mostly DIII programs.
The addition of 17+ turf fields is good news, however it may be too late for the boys teams that have moved on to play at Annandale in N.VA. Does not look like the girls have been hurt much.
I have been going to the Jeff Cup for over 20 years and even when it was just grass fields there are not too many times that I can remember them calling the event off because of weather. I also remember the temps (upper 50's to low 70's) have been pretty good most of the time too.

Mass has 3 of the best teams in the country in the u18 group. Stars United, Stars Rovers and Scorps. None are playing at Jeff Cup this year because they don't need that tournament for recruiting. The only two strong teams at Jeff Cup in the U18 are Syosset Sting and Penn Fusion Gaels.
As for the soccerincollege ranking system, there are not many people that use it. Look at gotsoccer and NSR for rankings.

You are kidding ... right? I think that the Stars and Scorps have played the top CASL team before, but typically the 92/93 group is not considered one of the strongest for NC. I don't think that there is any other team from NC that has ever competed at the upper levels in National Events. My guess is that the invitation to play was a joke because either of the Big 2 would do a pretty good number on Tarheel's girls. Personally, I have to believe that Tarheel is from up here and is having some fun at the U18 group's expense.

My guess is that the invitation to play was a joke because either of the Big 2 would do a pretty good number on Tarheel's girls. Personally, I have to believe that Tarheel is from up here and is having some fun at the U18 group's expense.
As been stated before there is only the Big 1 since 200 points separate Scorpions from Stars United. 148 points separate Scorpions from top NC team, Triangle United, which means TU are closer to Scorpions then is Scorpions to Stars United.

The only rankings of any relevance are gotsoccer.com. Nobody puts any credence in other ranking systems. NSR has been irrelevant for a good five years or more. The others are woefully kept. Soccer in College is a disgrace, nobody puts any stock in that.
Mathman is by far the best, but it's not relevant either, which is unfortunate!
I would agree that neither Stars Rovers nor Scorpions are any longer "one of the best teams teams in the country." But then again at U18 it's not as big a deal anymore anyway. I would argue the only Mass team really able to claim to be one of the best teams in the country last year as well was Stars United.

Jeff Cup has always been a nice event. But understand that the only coaches watching the U18 girls teams at this point will be mostly DIII programs.
.
The application deadline has passed, even for D3 schools, by the time these games are played. UNless a U18 team has plenty of 2012 players, then no coach is going to watch these games. sorry

There has been a great deal written about the value for college bound U18s (2011s) to play and compete at the relative same level and intensity that they did as younger players. Especially those teams that have a significant number of D1 recruits. So in that respect, coaches' attendance at these tournaments isn't the issue - but the quality of competition is. The Stars United/ECNL team is made up of almost all D1 commits and by all accounts all of their players intend on playing the sport in college. So for them (and teams like them) it makes some sence that they would continue to train and play at basically the same schedule as when they where U16s and U17s. That may also be the case for Tarheel's team and it would make the Jefferson Cup a great venue, despite having almost no recruiting value. Even if the team isn't loaded with future college players, it isn't that bad a trip from NC and probably worth the drive/stay for an excellent pre-season warm-up. Although the cost makes it less worthwhile for the second tier of New England teams who can get similar competion locally.

While I agree about staying in top condiiton for next fall, travelling to Va for this tournament still doesn't make financial sense to me. We are talking about March, these teams are supposedly playing in the highest league available in a couple of months, so I dont see a potential for fall off in conditioning for next fall by skipping the Jeff Cup. Just my opinion, good luck to those teams going.

Let me tell you a little story about application deadlines - of which every bit is true...
My oldest son didn't get into the schools he wanted (Ivy League)...
Rejection letters coming in Mid-April - his backup was UNC-Chapel Hill where he could not play soccer
so we contacted a couple of NESCAC's - club soccer coaches knew some folks and the coaches
invited him to attend their "one day camps" in June which are for HS Juniors.
One Coach liked what he saw and two days later (in June) he was accepted.
(disclaimer - kid was salutarian public HS (2/450), 2200 SAT's, National AP Scholar)
2nd in POY, MVP's, captain etc)
played that fall (2months later) Freshman year at NESCAC school...
For the right kids - there is no App deadline....

I agree this can and does happen, but it is unusual and is really not related to recruiting of U18 players at Jefferson Cup. By the way, my opinion is your son made a great decision choosing a NASCAC school.
The reality is, recruiting of the U17 class by the top programs is wrapping up and the focus is starting to turn to the U16s. At Jefferson Cup, the priority of the coaches will be 1) fill the holes in the U27 recruitment class; 2) start the detailed look at the U16s; 3) see exceptional U15s that have made contact; 4) have a beer with my coach buds; 5) look at U18 players that are currently HS juniors.
The reason no New England U18 girls top club is going to Jefferson Cup is they are all committed and there is now quality "tune-up" tournaments right here in New England. They are past the recruiting stage.
Good luck to your daughter's team this spring and to your son at a NASCAC school.
