View Full Version : Curious as to South Orange County teams old/new etc.?
Does anyone have any input as to the Clubs in South Orange County for Girls?
The first tier clubs in that area are Strikers, Blues, and Slammers. The second tier are West Coast, United SC, and Laguna Hills Eclipse. It will be interesting to see which of the second tier from that area will end up in premier. Possibly United SC and Eclipse. Blues will have two teams in and Strikers and Slammers will have one each. Try-outs for most of these teams are by appointment. So call the coaches. There are other good teams, but they are either in Northern Orange County, the Inland Empire, or the Valley.
With that being said, who has the best coaching or development program?
1.ISC
2.Laguna Hills
3.West Coast
4.Slammers
5.Blues
In the order of who has better training and developement.Doesn't alway's equal results.I'd say that Slammers and West coast are pretty even.Blues is very poor when it comes to training and development at the younger ages ex. MN. need I say more?
You're kidding about ISC being #1 for development and training, right? Other than DE, who is a good trainer at that club? Nobody. Not even taking into account the fact that teams are getting relegated left and right, who do they have beside Ebert there? This is a club living off the success of the boys side and one girls team (GU15).
this is MY HUMBLE OPINION......
Give us your list.
Remember that development doesn't alway's equal results epecially at the younger ages. The ISC program is about DEVELOPMENT first, and results wise the program has suffered due to this sacrifice.
I've heard myself from the DOC's at that maroon and florecent club say to me that they tell the parents thIS "It isn't our job here as coaches to make your kids better, they either GOT IT, OR THEY DON'T".This is a FACT.Tell me what you guy's think about that?
I think DE is a very good trainer who kids respect and train hard for. Unfortunately for him and the club, there aren't more of him (training wise) at the club and the kids suffer for that especially the girls side. The development with DE is not the problem. It's the development and training with the game time coaches that sadly is lacking something.
Maroon - before GB got himself suspended he was teaching the youngers how to play soccer. He demanded wins but also developed them.
Flourescent team - the like the big and fast but they also play good soccer. Look at MN's teams. That can't all be speed and size.
I don't think there are a lot of clubs that develop which is unfortunate. Just try to find the right team.
I think that the five clubs listed above do develop. Others do to. But, I also think that is where your child's personality comes in to play. There are different types of development with different types of coaches. What works for one kid and spurs them on to get better and better, crushes another. Go to trainings, try-outs. Watch games. Talk to your kid and see what you like. Our youngest is in a club he adores. His older sister wouldn't have survived the competition, high expectations, and lack of support. Our youngest just keeps getting better and better. He's thriving in an environment that might drown another kid's spirit. You have to decide what and who fits best for you. Some people have an axe to grind with one club or another for a variety of reasons, but it all boils down to where your kid fits in and whether or not they are happy.
most clubs do not work to much on development and mostly do their best to recruit players that have been developed by private trainers and/or other clubs. if winning is your cup of tea then try and get your child on the teams that focus on that, but if you are looking for true development then you must search out those very few clubs that are willing to sacrifice for the kids sake
Which teams or clubs are focusing on developing their players?
Which teams or clubs are focusing on developing their players?Arsenal has a kick a---s GU14 team that CK has brought up from the ground.

Same roster year after year? Bull! Recruited not developed!
As we begin are travels throughout South Orange County inquiring about what clubs are available, it appears that most teams have signed or completed their rosters! With that being said, who is the best trainer for either girls or boys under 12 to prepare for next year? Soccer Post recommended so PLEASE be unbiased on your recommendations as this is what is best for my kids....not some parent upset about their club, coach or their teams results?
Thanks

Same roster year after year? Bull! Recruited not developed!lol, so would you like player #'s. i have seen cle train, for many years, and when you have players playing at this level some can only give a season or two. thus forcing his krew to recruit, or i should say let those players wanting to come aboard tryout.
go gunner, dont hate, participate.
Which teams or clubs are focusing on developing their players?
what about storm
The old and the new....
Tom W the new director is very focused on development and is emerging to be recognized as one of the better youth trainers in the OC. Lamie M is a great choice for the youngers also with his easy going demeanor and experience.

never have and probably never will
stay away from Storm, MVSC, the blades, North Irvine, Fury, Pacific soccer club (for boys)
If I can read between the lines.....we explored all the South Orange County Clubs and the Blues Mary Naime relies on bringing in talent not teaching? Other clubs I am sure do the same, but this is the talk around Orange County and most being a win at all costs  ! What happened to teaching and developing and encouraging our young kids?

Check it out...then decide for yourself.
that nice website proves that storm develop
The Storm has lost teams again and the Fury is out of buisiness completely. Opinions are great but who has TW developed, his boys team almost went back to bronze.

Umm, no. One visits the website, sees what the club has to offer, and either contacts someone, or attends a practice, or an event that the club is hosting.
Isn't that how an athlete and his/her parents choose the right club for them?

CK has never, nor can he develop a team from the grass roots. In his 15 years of coaching, I can not name any players he actually developed (U9-Premier) who play at the highest collegiate level, or even at the Premier level successfully. Ferris at Arsenal has been able to keep his core players U9 to U19, all of whom have pretty much been given money to D1 colleges, who played in Premier every year and one of whom has been picked up by the National Team; Mike Hammond, U9-U19, pretty much every player picked up by a Division 1 college and some picked up for their National Teams, played Premier consistently. This is not luck. With a name draw like Arsenal, a good coach should have highly successful teams at the Premier level, year in and year out. Do you see that with the girl's side of Arsenal with CK's teams or even teams taught in their early years by CK? C'mon people, it's not brain surgery. If you want to wear blinders, at least don't publicize it on the forums. Evidence goes against everything said here about CK developing- not opinion just fact. He runs a winning program in the younger age groups and that is about it.

most clubs are like used car salesman in that they will tell you what they think you want to hear.
Storm is not known for developing players but is known for losing entire teams every year to other clubs.
It is somewhat of a surprise they are still around.
buyer beware

A club is only as good as the parents and players efforts put forth. New leadership, determined remaining leadership...it's a matter of time.

same old song from the Storm. It is indeed a matter of time before this club goes the way of Fury FC

TW has a way with the youngers, and knows how to build from that group. This club is on a rebuild, upswing. Remember you heard it hear first.

something we hear every year seems like from the Storm
TW having 3 teams is already starting off on the wrong foot.
throw in some AYSO coaches and it is business as usual.

If you want something done right, sometimes you just have to do it yourself.

admission to the poor quality of fellow coaches?
any coach that coaches 3 teams is just in it for the money and cares little about his players

Wrong. Having similar situations in my club, I would guess that it is a result of having a lack of coaches stepping up to the challenge of developing the youngers, and taking them to the top. Most coaches want big money, and want to walk into an already successful team.
Think about the scheduling of a coach trying to manage more than two teams...please, even money doesn't make that attractive.

Let's say you are right which would mean that your club has dropped the ball by not getting the right coaches

I just visited the website www.scstorm.com (http://www.scstorm.com). Free Fridays (new here, but didn't think anything was free in CA), a clinic with an coach from England, and the only person with TW appears to be coaching one team? LM seems pretty busy though.
We need development (as US Soccer is stepping in and saying). The word is that this club is about development.
An English coach? Development?

truly amazing how their website leads people to believe developing is going on and how good their coaches are. what about other club's sites?
wanker or his supporter must think we are all stupid!

Well, now what do you say? The camp seems to be going pretty well.
Well, what's the word in this area?

Well said. I think we finally found a coach that works with our daughter's style, but it took a being on a few teams to get there.
