    Miriam Hickey

    2008 MSYSA Annual Awards
Female Competitive Coach of the Year: Miriam Hickey

Miriam Hickey, a coach with the Vardar East soccer club, originally hails from the Netherlands. At age 6, she was one of only two girls allowed to play with boys and quickly honed her skills and love for the game. She came to the United States to play college soccer and quickly ended up coaching collegiate soccer teams. She eventually returned to the Netherlands and coached with the KNVB (Dutch National Soccer Association) for 8 years. Miriam's coaching credentials include the UEFA "B" license and the USSF "A" license. Her coaching philosphy is simple - soccer is about the players. She works hard to develop players during training, but allows them to make their own decisions during the game. Because of that, her teams have learned how to organize themselves and play a controlled passing style game. As a player and coach, Miriam believes that soccer is a good life training tool - it helps teach children teamwork, respect, and the art of winning (and losing) gracefully.

Good coach. She had a really good 99 team until it was stolen from her.

Well we're stuck. My daughter's team couldn't play in the championship game at Ultimate on Sunday because Miriam didn't want to play against the MI Elite Gators. So much for the committment to compete. $ and time invested??

          LOL

probably didn't want to have another 45 minute press conference after the game explaining and trying to get some to understand how second place isn't always first place loser (again).

            Re: Miriam Hickey

Actually it was your coach that opted not to play. Your team was going to play in another tournament the next morning and play 3 games, so your coach thought it was better not to play.

Our 7 and 8 year old girls (yes, that is who we are talking about here…) and the Troy Elite team were warming up to play in the final. When Ultimate manager Jon walked onto the field. The issue at hand was that a team that was supposed to play Lobos in their bracket final had left. Your coach suggested we play Lobos and said that he was okay with it that his team would not play another game. It was a nice gesture on his part to allow lobos to play.

We did not care who we would play against because no matter what our girls would get touches on the ball and that was the reason to play in this tournament in the first place.

I suggest you check with your coach if you feel you need to verify this or talk with Jon at Ultimate who was the one initiating the discussion.

            Happy New Year to all!

Poor, Miriam, she hasn't figured out that guilt by association hurts her legitimacy in the national soccer community. When she and her husband free themselves of that association and get their own organization, free of any connections with the convicted felon, they will then have a firm foundation to build true legitimacy.

She "re-credits" no one. Her dubious associations will prevent national recognition. Her recognition stops at the state level.

You are correct stops at state level...

Oh wait, did she not receive coach of the year for the REGION and is now up for the 2008 USYSA NATIONAL award...

She has been on the REGIONAL ODP staff for the past 10 years and is the one coach from Michigan traveling to EUROPE with a REGIONAL team this March? She has a NATIONAL A and Y license.

Won't be long till she will be teaching the coaches in your club when they show up for the E course. Oh I forgot the coaches in your club are proud not to have a coaching license...

                          You are a joke.
