Has anyone noticed the outrageous quantities of points that have been awarded to several tournament winners, finalist, semifinalist, and quaterfinalists in the last several months including multiple age groups, but more so at the U12 and U13 groups??
You have to be aware of how the points are awarded:
Average pre tournament point total of the top five teams entered - 20% of the winning teams pre-tourney total is awarded to the winner. In other words if the average pre-tourney point total is only 1200 points, then the winner should not be awarded 10,000!!!!
Just a few examples:
President's Cup (U12 and U13) (Arizona): The two winners were launched into the top ranking of the country. Each team awarded points received 10 x the amount they should have.
DTS Winter Invitational (New Jersey): NJSA Inter received 10 x the number of points it should have 400 to 4000...
Manhattan Kickoff
NEFC Pre-tournament; Now the NEFC U13 b-team is ranked number one in Mass.
It is almost as if they are off by a whole decimal point.
Although the rankings shouldn't matter much, they have been used to determine brackets placing for tournaments and for advertising by clubs.
It is such a phony system that I wonder if it should be abandoned altogether.
