So, how long does it take to put stamps on envelopes? Better yet, why not use email?

09-11-2008, 05:22 PM
I don't think they usually come out until October, do they?

09-11-2008, 07:47 PM
Why does it take so long? And why don't the pools get posted like other states? During club tryouts we have bagged a few posers wearing someone else's shirt.

Yawn...

Anyone can pay the fee, try out and get a shirt.

The suspense is killing you isn't it?

09-12-2008, 09:04 AM
There were so many girls at the 96 tryouts that it might take some time to sort our the talent

Better waiting until they get it right

09-12-2008, 09:11 AM
At the 1996 tryouts *Mundu* Singleton said the letters would be out by the end of September.

I disagree at the 96 tryouts he said that letter would come out in late October/ Early November, I was there. He also said not to email him.... I am betting you didn't hear that either and have emailed his as well. If this is any indication as to how you listen, please stay far away from me and hopefully your child listens much better than you!!!!

What a nice post. Classy, full of information.
Look at what you wrote...that they were telling people about LAST year. Hello, what does that have to do with THIS year. And btw, I was listening were you?

09-13-2008, 07:08 PM
Jared S said this year that letters would not go out till 11/1/08. I think this is late but the office staff now has the added burden of field scheduling and management. My child has been in the program for 4 years now. One of her old letters is dated 9/18. In those days they had call backs. Usually held around Columbus Day. After looking at the turn out this year I would suspect that they may not be conducting call backs. I think the 11/1 date was a random date to be safe.

Staff also has the added burden of the 1st Columbus Day tournament at the fields. Be patient!!!!

At the last session of the U15G tryouts a person substituting for Jared said the letters would be mailed by the end of September. Man it gets tough from this age bracket on up. Virtually all of last year's A and B team players, along with some new faces, were at the tryouts...about 60 players. I think it's safe to say that the majority of last year's A squad, along with another half dozen, or so, from B squad will be in the pool (don't believe any of the new faces will be included). My daughter is one of those from the B squad sitting on the bubble. For those of us whose kids are in this position all we can do is hope and pray for the best. We've been praying to God every chance we get for my kid's inclusion in the pool. It means so much to me.

I feel compelled to respond to your comments. You don't understand. It means a whole lot to me. I hope it means as much to my kid. My goal is to have my kid play on the national team. I know she didn't play much while on the B team but she's about to break out. I feel it. It's coming. It's just a matter of time. The lord Jesus Christ is on our side. I hope he's listening to our prayer. Pray and you shall be heard. Don't under estimate the power of the prayer. Look at George Bush. When he started kneeling to his Lord everything changed for him. It is said that he would pray for hours asking God for a chance to become the President. His prayers were answered. If your kid is on the bubble you need to make the time for prayer.

Hey sh!thead...(I'm thinking this is the same person who hates when someone says 'me' or 'our' on this board)

Maybe it does mean alot to the mom for reasons you or anyone else has no idea about, it certainly means alot to a 14 year old.

?? So, let's say your 'prayer' is answered and your kid makes the team. Do you know what that actually means? That means another kid was dropped from the team. What about the 'prayer' said in that family? Is one prayer more important than another prayer? Looks like your Lord would be taking sides. Hmmmm.....

09-15-2008, 12:59 PM
Bad news on the prayer front. JC says he is busy with the hurricanes and the collapse of a good portion of the world's economy. Just doesn't have the time to deal with ODP. Says to use your free will, deductive reasoning and opposable thumbs to deal with it. Might be available to address concerns about the spring pool, but since that is right after passover he probably won't be much hope until Rider!!

09-15-2008, 02:43 PM
You have to be kidding! None of the new faces will come in to play what a joke. If you are on the so called ODP "B" team give it up and pray for real things like good health saftey of family and friends.

That's exactly my point. God is counting the number of times you're on you knees praying for his help. In the case of my family (including my two-year old twins) we're on our knees collectively at least 12 times a day. Ultimately this will determine whether or not my kid makes the state pool; and if I'm more vigilant and expressive on the roserary beads and chanting regimen, she could reach the national team before my expectation. I can tell you she is doing fantastic on her freshman team. The coach says she's one of the better players on the team. Do you know the reason for this? I constant pray to God. So, yes, quantity does matter to God. Like us, for we were created in his own image, he wants to be sure that you love him. This can only be done by our constant devotion to the Lord. That is the reason I implore you people to start your prayers today. Don't hesitate. If your child does not make it into the state pool, it only means that you did not pray enough. In other words, you were edged out by someone else. Yes, I understand that it's not always fair, and sometimes it feels like survival of the fittest, but this is something you can control with passionate dedication. We're not taking any chances. In fact in about 10 minutes my family will be meeting in our private Prayer Temple in the darkness of the outside woods to convene our daily practice (13th today). Pray to the Lord!

Who knows what takes so long. They don't select based on talent it's based on who they know. We have seen kids make ODP year after year that struggle to get playing time on weaker D2 MAPLE teams. ODP is good for building up your ego. With limited training sessions they can't help the kids it still comes back to having a good club coach and showcase tournaments to be seen.

That is also why many of the top players do not participte in ODP. If it boosts the ODP players ego, great, but it doesn't help thier soccer. The new players will figure out it's a scam in about one season.

What a load of crap.

There are plenty players who travel from the far reaches too tryout and make the pools: Berkshires, Cape Cod, etc. In fact a current U15 player made the ODP and Regional pool, as a U12 playing up and U13, before ever playing club soccer. Last year was her first.

Not from Mass but saw your post for recent most popular. I can't believe that you are waiting for a letter to come in the mail. Our kids are picked after the last day of try-out while the they are all still together with their peers. Everyone knows who was and wasn't picked before they leave that day.

Politics will be present no matter where you are or when you notify....

In your area, if someone wants it bad enough, they can certainly get in touch with your coaches and apply influence before tryouts even begin.

Picking kids at the end of the try-out is great. Everyone at the try-out Coaches, Parents, Spectatators and Players are not left guesing and waiting. The try-out is fresh on the coaches mind and there usually is no second guessing after the fact.

Not sure....I'm in my 40s and played hockey and baseball. Of all the teams I tried out for and made or didnt make, there was never an 'on the spot' announcement. Lists posted a few times but no one ever knew at the last try out.

I would think that picking on the spot would be more of an indication of the team being formed prior to the tryout.

We're all on pins and needles.

Why, just yesterday I nearly drove my Range Rover into a bridge abutment from the anticipation of the excitement of being able to tell my friends, colleagues, and associates that my 13 year old Brittany had made the Olympic Development Team. I nearly spilled my soy latte all over Talbots suit!

That same thing happened to me last year as I was on my way from our Scrops Club team practice. 'Parent Coach' had a bad day at work and took it out on the kids. He said something about he wasn't making his drive-thru times and had to throw away 3 Big Macs and got yelled at.

I was so angry at him!

Yes. The jackets are available in both Youth and Adult sizes.

Jackets wear out over time. Have you considered a giant tattoo instead? That'll last forever.

[color=#FF0000]It means so much to me. You need to get a grip #-o Praying to God... It means so much to YOU?.....HELLO,.....McFLY. can't brag to your friends? Will you be a social outcast if she doesn't make it?

I feel compelled to respond to your comments. You don't understand. It means a whole lot to me. I hope it means as much to my kid. My goal is to have my kid play on the national team. I know she didn't play much while on the B team but she's about to break out. I feel it. It's coming. It's just a matter of time. The lord Jesus Christ is on our side. I hope he's listening to our prayer. Pray and you shall be heard. Don't under estimate the power of the prayer. Look at George *bilberry*. When he started kneeling to his Lord everything changed for him. It is said that he would pray for hours asking God for a chance to become the President. His prayers were answered. If your kid is on the bubble you need to make the time for prayer.

We got the letter today. Unfortunately the news was not pleasant. My kid did not make the pool. I was devastated! It has ruined my day, and, in all likelihood, the rest of my week. I'm unable to determine where we went wrong. We've been praying on a daily basis since the tryouts. The only possible explanation is that other families were persistent and consistent in their rituals, and beat us out. I should have involved other family members and neighbors to contribute in the prayer sessions. We'll try again next year. Best of luck to all those kids who were selected into the pool. We'll be praying for all you angels.

Please keep comments to constructive ones. For the kids who worked hard and made ODP, these disparaging comments are just petty and mean. It would be nice if these postings could focus on answering objective questions about the program. The ODP training has been very good for my teen and the coaches are very supportive and encouraging. My kid also plays high school and club soccer. The ODP pool players appreciate the opportunity to play with skilled players across the state in addition to playing with their school and town or club teams. These kids play for the love of the game and don't need these negative comments. Please think about who the audience is when submitting future postings.

Why cant you just say nice job to the boys and girls that make it

They are the future of the game

It is very sad to see this - but I know you are so upset - I bet you wish your child was playing - How is your club doing this year?

I am upset. SHe didnt make ODP again this year and I'm not sure why. She is clearly the best player on her team which plays in Maple D. I just dont understand it.

Sorry for my senseless comment but I am at a loss. Maybe shoe repair is what we'll try next

Not me disparaging anyone, least of all soccer kids, ODP or not. It would be good if this thread was about ODP, not the snotty back-and-forth...

I don't know about the girls teams, but this is probably a key year for the boy's program, it seems like there will be a number of openings for 93s and older, since the DAP players aren't participating. How did those teams turn out this year? Who are the new coaches?

Also, you might want to take a look at this thread from the other forum on the breakdown of U14B NT (I think these would be 94s?) by region and state: http://touchline.informe.com/u14-boys-n ... dt201.html (http://touchline.informe.com/u14-boys-national-team-id-camp-dt201.html) - comments? discussion (polite or otherwise)?

Wrong Hater! One regional player from RI and at least 3 MA ODP players on MPS U15 Renegades!

Hmmm....looking and knowing many players from many different pools, its clear your head is in your ass as there are many.

In fact, a '93 girls regional pool pick was MPS so chew on that.

FWIW, it was not I who posted the "meaningless" snot. I would like to see this discuss ODP, what's going on in the Mass program, how R1 stacks up vs other areas, implications of DAP, pretty much anything with substance. I put the questions above out there to try (apparently in vain) to steer the discussion in that direction. There were almost 8 hours of silence, then the SuperY crack - too bad.

Actually, that could be another discussion point, doesn't SuperY have it's own ODP/NT ID system? If I recall correctly, a feature of that program was that player's would be IDed through "regular" club play, working with players with whom they are familiar. Is that correct? Compare with the State Team "open tryout" approach, experiences with each, etc. Also, do the GKs in SYL ODP work out with the pool players, or separately as in the MYSA program?

Here's another one - is MA ODP going to organize a Portugal trip this year, or did that end with Prata's move to the DAP?

Oh, and speaking of the DAP - at what point in the Regional Pool/National Pool/National Team process do players IDed through ODP and DAP come together?

Or you can just go back to slamming each other, doesn't matter to me.

09-26-2008, 08:00 AM

I think everyone has said their piece. The parents whose players have made it think its a worthwhile thing to do while those parents with distorted views of their kids abilities who failed to make it will knock it as they are embarrassed. Human nature.
