New USSF mgmt & 2027 Women’s WC bid

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/africa....3fplatform=amp

Lots going on over at USSF. New WNT GM and new Sports Director. Never had those positions before. Seems like some overlap in these jobs and seriously wonder whether coaches will have the autonomy to pick players, develop strategies, etc. like Jill Ellis had with these two looking over their shoulder. Also considering a bid to host 2027 Women’s WC. I don’t understand why a GM would have responsibility over the bid. Doesn’t USSF have a CEO and marketing department to handle that?

By all accounts the place is a cluster phuk.

PARIS — The reviews read like pleas for help from inside a failing corporation. “A terrible and toxic place to work.” “A culture of fear and intimidation.” “Morale is at an all time low.”

But this is not an ordinary company. The scathing critiques were posted, anonymously but publicly, by more than a dozen current and former employees of U.S. Soccer, the governing body for the sport in the United States, on a networking website. More than a dozen have been created over the past two months, as U.S. Soccer has moved into the final stages of its search for a new chief executive. Seven have appeared since the start of the Women’s World Cup on June 7...

Sure is a sh*t show. Earnie Stewart was only named USMNT GM last June after having little to do with the team since his playing days 10+ years ago. Just over one year later he gets promoted to a new position overseeing the whole national team. Supposed to be managing all the talent identification, but what happened to BJ Snow? According to the article, BJ was doing all the talent ID for the USWNT along with Ellis. So USSF doesn’t promote the people who’ve actually been doing the job. Instead they drag up someone like Earnie Stewart and put him in charge of everything. Makes perfect sense....

Can’t blame her. She explained her reasoning very clearly. Beyond going out a winner after two World Cups, she wanted to spend more time with family and the upcoming Olympics starts a new cycle to the next World Cup and a new coach should be leading that. Her contract ended after this last World Cup with an option to renew only thru next year’s Olympics. She chose not to renew so the question is why doesn’t USSF seem prepared for her leaving since they knew that was a possibility since they wrote the contract?

Does Ellis have a huge retirement? Seems odd not to work a little more through the Olympics and bank roll a big chunk of money, doesn’t it?

Ellis could make more coaching a pro or college team or even writing a book.

Didn’t Ellis make like 350k/year plus WC and Olympic bonuses? What female college coach makes more than that?

No she made less and made less than the men's coach. I think she bailed partly to go out on top, but also to get out of that mess. It's only going downhill from here. The question is how steep will the slope be?

I know that Ellis made even less than men’s assistant coaches but she made more than maybe any other female coach... Must have been pretty bad if she was willing to give up significant income(for her) in order to go out early, “on top”.

She'll be on the USSF payroll for a long time. Nobody actually leaves; they just recycle in another position (scout, GDA coordinator, etc.). It's a great gig if you can get it.

I get the sense she's ready to bail out of the impending Titanic. She can make good dough doing other things.

Rapinoe was making the talk show rounds this morning saying that negotiations of WNT salaries have stalled. According to her they will accept nothing but equal pay. This could be stalled for a long time
