    Memorial Day Tournaments: College Coaches

Wow! The Boys ECNL Tournament down in Philadelphia sure crippled the college coach attendance at the GPS and Needham tournaments.

Look at just the local colleges that flocked from New England this weekend:

    Bowdoin
    Brandeis
    Colby
    Holy Cross
    Middlebury
    Stonehill
    Tufts
    UMass
    UNH
    Wheaton
    Williams
    Yale

The ECNL tourney attracted 37 D1 coaches in total.

      You suck at throwing shade.

Here’s the GPS list. I won’t bother posting the Needham one because it’s the exact same list as GPS. It’s mostly women’s coaches with some D2 and D3 men’s coaches thrown in.

and who cares? Of course ECNL will hopefully a stronger list than GPS or Needham. That's how it should work if you think ECNL is a stronger league. There was also Potomac this weekend which is a pretty well attended event. Not really sure what point the thread OP had. I don't think anyone is saying either of the local two events are great for recruiting. They're fine for lower level players and schools, even better if no one is traveling much for it. If coaches from local schools want to see local players in league games they can easily, but this weekend they're going where there's more bang for their buck.

Such a joke. All of these “coaches in attendance” are actually assistant coaches of clubs participating.

Low paid asst coaches at a college make extra money coaching at clubs. They attend the showcase as a club coach and the showcase advertises that they are there to scout.

Not saying that there aren't college coaches actually watching players. But I think the showcase (and clubs) make the impression that there are hundreds of coaches walking around.

DA games with coaches in the stands.

DA showcases with dozens of coaches camped out on the sideline.

This is what the rest of the parents from other leagues just don’t understand. Coaches actually SCOUT at DA games.

BDA yes. Well, some. Coaches still want to see players who are interested in their program. They're not going to spend too much time trying to woo an uninterested player. So the coaches you see at DA games are primarily there to see certain players. Not so much in GDA. College coaches know there's talent in GDA and ECNL and unfortunately now have to shop both.

They shop with a list. They're not window shopping.

True they do. However this weekend at Delco I personally observed numerous coaches stop and watch my sons team playing. Happened all 3 days. Probably because they play a nice technical game. They would stop, watch for 15 -20 minutes, take a few notes, and head out with their shopping list. Nice play does catch coaches eyes and may or may not lead to anything.

College coaches are looking at individual players, they could care less about the club or which
                          Team won.

Valeo players get recruited? I thought they all left for the Revs and Bolts to get recruited.
