I heard there was an incident in the Needham tournament with a ........yes......Bolts U11 coach. Apparently, he was ballistic over a penalty that his team was awarded. The ref gave an indirect kick. The Bolts player kicked the ball directly into the goal and the goal was not given the ball given to the other team. The coach went nuts to the point of being escorted off the field by the tournament directors. Allegedly, the coach threatened to kill people (any guess what his nationality was?)
U11!!!!!
What was also seen were the Bolts parents going crazy as well as their U11!!! kids.
The Bolts team lost.
Kudos to the ref and the needham tournament directors for booting the coach off.

American the nationality? or was he from the same country where the parent actually killed another parent after a youth hockey game. Wait, USA. Bolts coach was an a-hole, no doubt. but your remark tops that.

Refs were awful!! They were young and looked like they didn't want to be there.
One team from NJ said they were not coming back and they had a few teams in the tourney.
I think the Needham tourney will be dead in a few years. Teams don't want to pay that type of money for 15 years kids that have no clue and look like they should be playing fortnite instead of being outside .
Nope. Not racist at all.
I never said what country the coach came from. Are you, however, profiling and thinking that there are countries that the coach would have been more likely to have come from?

The tournament can only work with what they have. A lot of older refs don't even want to deal with these tournaments because the coaches/parents act like its the World Cup. So your not going to great refs no matter what tournament you go to exspeacially at the younger age groups.
I do think it's interesting that people complain about the young refs but how are they suppose to get better if they aren't able to ref games? Sure the refs will make mistakes but they are also learning just like tech players they are reffing.
I would like to see just for one game when a ref can call out all the bad plays/mistakes a player and coach make during a game and see the amount of bad plays made by the players or bad coaching desission made by the coach also stupid comments by the parents compared to the bad calls by the ref. Wonder who makes more?

Now that GPS has their event the same weekend it's very challenging to get refs. Older kids are playing in their own games (my 18 yo refs but was away). Adult refs are hard to come by no matter what, but they'll go to the highest paying gigs. The best/most qualified will be at events like PDA. I stopped expecting much from reffing at any event a long time ago. As long as nothing is egregious and no one is injured it's a good event. Sad but that's how it is. We have a ref shortage, period.

Instead of young refs earning their stripes in an end of the year, playoff type atmosphere, they should be getting their feet wet during league games or working with an older ref as an apprentice. This notion that we throw them into a tournament game just so they can learn the job is ludicrous. There are other, less stressful ways to get training as a ref. My daughter was a ref for a few years and they had a good training program with apprenticeship at a D3 festival tournament and preseason scrimmages.
