    WAGS division structures

    WAGS posted their Fall 2015 division structures yesterday http://www.wagsl.com/div_structures/index_E.html

    There is just not a lot of quality left in this league, now that ECNL, CCL, NPL, EDP etc has drawn top teams/clubs away. Taking a quick look at the projected gotsoccer flight values (if they were calculated today) for the Division 1 groupings:

    U14 = 810
    - 10 teams in this group
    - only 2 teams ranked in top 10%
    U15 = 612
    - 6 teams in this group
    - only 1 team ranked in top 10%
    U16 = 1139
    - 5 teams in this group
    - only 1 team ranked in top 5%
    U17 = 1890
    - 5 teams in this group
    - only 1 team ranked in top 2% (and they're playing up)
    U18 = 452
    - 6 teams in this group
    - no teams ranked in top 15%

    Obviously those will change some after pre-season tournaments, but there isn't likely to be any significant jump. Even if you look at adding the MD sit-out teams into these divisions, there aren't any highly-ranked teams that would impact these flight values.

    Another interesting thing is that if the highly-ranked teams in each of these flights win their divisions, none of them will earn any points because of their 20% deduction. Those teams won't be challenged at all on a weekly basis.

    Thanks for this, I wanted to do something like this but didn't get around to it. You're absolutely right, WAGS no longer offers any significant competition for good teams. The top WAGS divisions are on par with the D flight of a decent tournament. With so many good teams having left WAGS, the league is approaching ODSL level. The problem for the few good teams left in WAGS is that they can't use the league purely for development (new formations, new positions, etc.) because there is still the threat of relegation and how painful would it be for a good team to be threatened with WAGS Division 2 status.

      Do things look as bleak in NCSL, in terms of quality?
