The pro is that the kids have fun and get to play with their friends.

The con is that the parents are involved.

The pros, if you've got a good coach, it can be a plus to receive the benefits of a different pair of eyes, since the majority of club tams keep the same coach start to finish.

If you've got a good coach, then you get to spend more time under his/her tutelage than you do playing club.

If you are lucky to play with some quality players, you can learn from those players, especially if you are a young player who makes varsity.

If you are an older player you get the benefits of being a team leader. Some kids, even though they might not be the best soccer players, really benefit on this point.

Ask the kids, there is definitely something positive to playing in front of a crowd of friends and family even if the soccer isn't all that great, but if it is pretty good it can be an unforgetable experience.

pros include: town/school support, local press, playing with friends.
cons: poor reffing and in some cases, poor coaching; physical play not controlled by refs; sloppy play for those used to possession game and used to playing with a full team of skill;long days followed by long nights of homework (although some players do slack off on the academics)
